Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a “vegan”?

I gave up meat in July 2005.  I was a lacto-ovo (…meaning that I ate milk and eggs) for 6 1/2 years. Recently went vegan for 3 months in order to correct an iron deficiency issue I was dealing with.  Currently, I eat a vegetarian diet but try to avoid dairy whenever possible. In short, I eat what feels right and what works best with my body and activity level.

What is a VMO?

It is a term I totally made up.  A VMO stands for Vegan Meal Off.  This is what I call the one meal a week where I revert back to my old lacto-ovo vegetarian ways. Since I am new the the whole “vegan” thing, I find that the VMO is a really good transition tool.

Why did you give up meat?

I gave up meat and dairy because I love animals and want to protect the environment and my health. In general I think that it is really easy for people to eat animals because they are not forced to think about where their food comes from.

What is your current weight?

Like most people, my weight fluctuates.  I normally weigh between 130-135.  I consider that to be my happy/healthy weight range.  I weigh in every Wednesday at 12:15 at my weekly Weight Watcher meeting.  I became a  Lifetime member in November of 2009!

How tall are you?

I’m 5’4

On average how many calories a day do you eat?
Since I am a Weight Watcher, I normally count Points.  My daily target is 29 Points.  I occasionally will count calories for a short period of time (1-2 days) to make sure my calories and macro nutrients are on point for my activity level.  My “maintain” weight calories tend to be in the neighborhood of 1450 per day.

What type of camera do you use?

I recently purchased a new Cannon Power Shot DS1400 IS.  It’s a great point & shoot camera and I would highly recommend it based on both quality and price.  I have a camera crush on the Cannon Rebel XS (DSL-R).  One day it will be in my sticky little hands.

What Kind of dog is Benoit?

Benoit is a Yorkshire Terrier.  You can read more about him on his page.  He also recently began dabbling in social media and started a Facebook page.  Go ahead and add him, I’m sure he would love to be friends!

How Do You Manage a Baby and Regular Exercise?

This is a tough one. It can get challenging to manage a baby and also run regularly. What I’ve found is that you need to get all of the help you can get. One great source of help is that I get free baby stuff for military families. It really helps.
